Nigerian singer’s video dominates Google searches

A video posted on Twitter by a Nigerian singer,
Oluwatosin Ajibade, claiming that some Nigerian
musicians use Ghanaian sounds for hits,
dominated searches on Google in the past one
week.

Google’s spokesman, Mr Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade,
made this known in a dispatch to newsmen on
Friday in Lagos.

The spokesman said that the video posted by
Ajibade, (a.k.a. Mr Eazi) attracted comments on
the social media.
Ajibade is also a songwriter and entrepreneur.
“Once the video went viral, fans raced to Google
to watch the video and drop their comments,” he
said.

According to Kola-Ogunlade, the release of
iPhone 8 and the final match of the Nigeria
Professional Football League also trended on
Google searches.

“In the world of sports, the Nigerian Professional
Football League (NPFL) nine-month-long
championship came to an end on Sept. 9,’’ the
Google manager noted.
He said that Plateau United defeated Rangers of
Enugu by 2- 0.
“The club scored 66 points in total to be the 19th
Nigeria League champions. This is also recorded
as Plateau United’s first NPFL win.

“Excited fans raced to Google search to get more
details about their favourite clubs,” he said.
He added that excited fans and Apple users
searched for the prices, specs and colours of
iPhones 8 and 8 Plus.

The Google manager said that the prices and
release date for the iPhones were announced by
Apple alongside the details of the Apple X.
He said that the phones are upgrades to iPhone 7
and 7 Plus range.

Kola-Ogunlade also said that parents and
students took to Google search to get updates on
the indefinite strike by the Academic Staff Union
of Universities (ASUU).
NAN reports that Google Trends launched in May,
2006, allows one to see how popular search
terms and their demography have been overtime
on Google.
