Zaki Biam massacre: Three burnt alive in reprisal attack

At least three persons were reportedly burnt to
death in a building in late Friday night attack on
Tse-Chia village, near Kasar in Zaki Biam, Ukum
local government area of Benue State in a reprisal
attack by suspected victims of last Monday’s
massacre in Biam maintain town.

Sunday Vanguard gathered from an eyewitness
who spoke that the attack also led to the razing of
several houses in the community.

“The attackers of Tse-Chia were led by some
youths in Zaki Biam main town who identified and
recognized all the masterminds of the Monday
attack”, the eye witness said.

“They know all those who participated in that
massacre”, so every night since after that
unfortunate incident, youths from Biam visit their
villages and houses to pay them back in their
own coin and, where they are not found at home,
their houses are razed, that is what is going on at
the moment.

“It was all about fight for supremacy, which was
allowed to degenerate to the level of the mass
killings of innocent people and destruction of
property of a magnitude never witnessed in the
state after the 2001 military invasion.
“It’s pay back time and a continuos exercise,
nobody is waiting for law enforcement officers to
apprehend the masterminds of the massacre, the
youths of Biam know who played whatever role in
that attack and they will be made to pay. It is tit-
for-tat because no one has monopoly of
violence.”

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations
Officer, Assistant Superintendent, ASP, Moses
Yamu, who confirmed incident, pleaded with
youths of the state to desist from taking the law
into the hands, he urged them to avail the police
necessary information in the course of their
investigations.
